Founded in 1892, the Muzeum Vysočiny Jihlava is located in Masarykovo náměstí (Masaryk Square) in two architectonically precious houses that have been interconnected for the museum’s purposes. Since 2003, when the Muzeum Vysočiny Jihlava was established by the Regional Authority of Vysočina, along with its branch locations in Telč, Třešť, and Roštejn Castle, it has been the largest museum in the Vysočina Region.

Its permanent expositions are thematically focused on the region of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands (Vysočina).

In addition to permanent expositions, the museum organizes special thematic exhibitions, lectures, and other cultural and social events throughout the year.
